HVAC System Quality Installation Contractor Checklist -- This checklist identifies all of the steps the contractor has taken for the Energy Star Certification and identifies what work the contractor has done. If the system is later modified, this checklist can help identify what was done to proper Energy Star specifications and what was added later that may not meet the requirements.
In the case of direct expansion equipment, the air passing over the indoor cooling coil heats the cold liquid refrigerant. Heating the refrigerant causes boiling and transforms the refrigerant from a cold liquid to a warm gas. This warm gas (or vapor) is pumped from the cooling coil to the compressor through a copper tube (suction line to the compressor) where the warm gas is compressed. In some cases, an accumulator is placed between the cooling coil and the compressor to capture unused liquid refrigerant and ensures that only vapor enters the compressor. The compression process increases the pressure of the refrigerant vapor and significantly increases the temperature of the vapor. The compressor pumps the vapor through another heat exchanger (outdoor condenser) where heat is rejected and the hot gas is condensed to a warm high pressure liquid. This warm high pressure liquid is pumped through a smaller copper tube (liquid line) to a filter (or filter/dryer) and then on to an expansion device where the high pressure liquid is reduced to a cold, low pressure liquid. The cold liquid enters the indoor cooling coil and the process repeats.
Our technicians explain all of your options before beginning the repair, so you can decide whether a repair or replacement is best for you. Our No Surprises Pricing—including charging by the job, not by the hour—means the price we quote you is the price you pay. If you decide that replacing your furnace is the best course of action, we can install a new, high-efficiency model in its place.
Because an air conditioner moves heat between the indoor coil and the outdoor coil, both must be kept clean. This means that, in addition to replacing the air filter at the evaporator coil, it is also necessary to regularly clean the condenser coil. Failure to keep the condenser clean will eventually result in harm to the compressor, because the condenser coil is responsible for discharging both the indoor heat (as picked up by the evaporator) and the heat generated by the electric motor driving the compressor.
Over the Labor Day weekend our hot water heater decided it was time to say good bye. Since we had our fall check the week before, we called Nerthlings. I cannot say enough good things about how this situation was handled. The technician, Dwain, was knowledgeable, friendly, and quite helpful without being pushy. Our questions were answered clearly. I am never made to feel that this is something...
Our Baker Brothers Family Plan membership provides you with an annual inspection of your furnace. This will help keep it working properly so it’s there for you when you need it most. HVAC is an important part of residential structures such as single family homes, apartment buildings, hotels and senior living facilities, medium to large industrial and office buildings such as skyscrapers and hospitals, on ships and submarines, and in marine environments, where safe and healthy building conditions are regulated with respect to temperature and humidity, using fresh air from outdoors.

Mr Manns did a great job of explaining what he was doing. I learned some new things. One request: before using the hose, please ask to use it. In my particular case, the spicot is misbehaving. I have a particular method for turning it on/off to minimize aggravating the problem. So while there are no problems with him using it, I want to turn it on and off but was not given the opportunity to do so.
Air conditioners come in two basic types—central and window. A central AC provides cooling to your entire home, while a window AC cools just the room where it’s installed. If you’re not using a heat pump, you can pair an air conditioner with a furnace to provide both heating and cooling. Just to make things a bit more confusing, a central air conditioner housed together with a furnace in a single cabinet is also known as a packaged unit!
In addition to installing new HVAC systems from scratch and repairing them day and night, we also care about your indoor air quality. After all, it’s not enough to think about temperature alone. You also have to consider the relative humidity of your space, as well as eliminating as many contaminants and pollutants as possible. That means installing a whole-house air purifier or UV air purifier, and possibly a dehumidifier or humidifier. What’s more, our technicians offer attic insulation and abatement services in Anaheim, CA and the surrounding areas. Call Home Comfort USA today to learn more about what we can do to improve the air that you and your family breathe every day!
If you need an air conditioner repair, and you aren’t sure whether or not you should just replace it, you can use the “5000 test” to decide. Simply multiply the cost of the repair by the age of your air conditioner. If the outcome is more than $5000, then you should replace your air conditioner. We provide fast quality heating repair, air conditioning repair and HVAC repair Philadelphia residents and the better business bureau rated (A+).

Most modern air-conditioning systems feature a dehumidification cycle during which the compressor runs while the fan is slowed as much as possible to reduce the evaporator temperature and therefore condense more water. When the temperature falls below a threshold, both the fan and compressor are shut off to mitigate further temperature drops;[clarification needed] this prevents moisture on the evaporator from being blown back into the room. When the temperature rises again,[clarification needed] the compressor restarts and the fan returns to low speed.
The heat pump gained popularity in the 1950s in Japan and the United States. Heat pumps can extract heat from various sources, such as environmental air, exhaust air from a building, or from the ground. Initially, heat pump HVAC systems were only used in moderate climates, but with improvements in low temperature operation and reduced loads due to more efficient homes, they are increasing in popularity in cooler climates.

Reinstall the access panel and disconnect block. Turn on the circuit breaker and furnace switch. Then set the thermostat to a lower temperature and wait for the AC to start (see “Be Patient at Startup,” below). The compressor should run and the condenser fan should spin. If the compressor starts but the fan doesn’t, the fan motor is most likely shot. Shut off the power and remove the screws around the condenser cover. Lift the cover and remove the fan blade and motor (photo 7). Reinstall the blade and secure the cover. Then repower the unit and see if the fan starts. If it doesn’t, you’ve given it your best shot—it’s time to call a pro.
A packaged system is a single unit combining all the components described in the split system. Since the unit is a package, it must be placed outside the building and indoor air is “ducted” from the building to the packaged system and back through an air distribution system. These units typically have SEER rating from 10 to 18. If heating is required, an alternate method of heating the interior of the building must be used, usually in the form of electric or gas heating.
